Our Story
Our story started with coffee, but it really started with family.
Years ago, our brother went to seminary school and quickly discovered that he wasn't a fan of the coffee there. Instead of settling, he decided to learn how to roast his own. What began as a hobby grew into Cliff Tops Coffee Co., a small roasting business operated from his basement while balancing life as a father of four and a job as a school administrator.
When a storefront became available in Gatlinburg's Arts and Crafts Community, the three of us sisters saw an opportunity. We imagined a place where people could slow down, gather, and enjoy great coffee in one of the most unique corners of the Smoky Mountains. In early 2020, we purchased Cliff Tops Coffee Co., and that dream became the Gatlinburg Grind.
The Arts and Crafts Community has always felt like home to us. Several generations of our family have been artists here, from woodcarvers to basket weavers, and we have always admired the craftsmanship and creativity that make this area special. That appreciation for handmade work influences everything we do, with each cup of coffee and delicate pastry a work of art in its own right.
As life continued to grow and change, so did our business. Between college, careers, and the increasing demands of the shop, we outgrew the time and space needed to roast our own coffee. Rather than compromise on quality, we spent hours researching and tasting coffees until we found a local roasting partner who shared our values. Today, we receive freshly roasted beans daily, allowing us to continue serving exceptional coffee while supporting another local business.
One of our favorite pieces of the shop is our antique espresso machine. It reminds us that some things are worth doing the old-fashioned way, with care and attention to detail.
Today, we're grateful to be a part of this community, and welcome customers from all over the world, in all walks of life. Whether you're exploring the Arts and Crafts Loop, visiting the Smokies,or simply looking for a great cup of coffee, we're glad you're here.
